The impact of natural disasters and big company mistakes reaches people’s nerves, apparently not the last nerve. Instead of standing by and shouting at the TV “Oh, how sad it is for those people affected by the BP Oil spill. Such a shame since the Gulf is still recovering from Katrina”, a few people put some passionate action behind GIVING. Dan Morrison of Citizen Effect, local support from Social Media Club DC, and several advocates (Geoff Livingston, Jill Foster, Chris Abraham, Shireen Mitchell, Andi Narvaez, Tracy Tran, Eric Johnson, Anne Eigman to name a few) hosted a DC fundrasier to take part in CitizenGulf: National Day of Action!
The social media scene attended with flying colors ready to give, chat, eat and wish their dollars away for a better cause. The highlight of the night was not only the pre-screening of a film documenting the life after Katrina by Anita Sinha of Advancement Project, but included the Date Auction! Yes folks, some of DC’s finest social media sweethearts offered their personal brand of “self” and raised $400 towards the project goal! The overall $1500 in proceeds will go directly to the Gulf Coast Benefit that will certainly help the famlies with everday life and recovery. Have you been watching the news or reading blog posts on the latest BP Oil spill information? Glad we could offer some assistance financially and in spirit.
